Getting started-Howard Hughes Style
Hello world, my name is Shahmeer Lateef and I am a proud and excited Howard Hughes Precollege Program fellow. I attend C.E Jordan High School and am a rising senior. In my free time I enjoy listening to music, spending time with friends, watching movies and sports. GO DUKE. I consider myself a precollege Cameron Crazy with high hopes for the future of Duke Basketball.
I have been assigned to Dr. Greg Wray's Biology Lab located in the French Building. My first day in the lab went much smoother than I had previously imagined. I was introduced to a large group of very friendly, helpful, and passionate researchers, post-docs, graduates, and undergrads. BJ, the lab technician, gave me an extremely helpful lesson on the rationale and science behind PCRs (polymerase chain reaction). Within the next day or two, I will hopefully have an assigned project. I am looking forward to gaining hands on experience in the lab setting, not just with state of the art equipment, but with the helpful and driven individuals of the Wray Lab as well.
