Onward!

Well, well. It's the second to last day of the program and our last day in our labs. These seven weeks have been tremendously enriching and I've learned so much about plant evolution, lab technique, genetics and a ton more. Now that we're about to return to our normal lives as lazy teenagers tomorrow, we all wonder what'll happen next. Luckily for me, I know exactly what's going to happen to me next.

Let me begin by explaining that I go to the North Carolina School of Science and Math. There, we have this great research program that students enroll in just like a normal course. If you get into mentorship, you have the opportunity to locate a lab near school that's willing to mentor you and the school will drive you to your lab twice a week to work there for 3 hours each time. Now on to the exciting part. I've recently gotten the Ok from both my mentors and our mentorship coordinator to stay in this lab next year and continue working with them! I'm really appreciative of the fact that both Matt and Dr. Rausher are so kind and generous about letting me into their lab for an extra two trimesters. And as an added bonus, I've already learned about some of the projects that they do and gotten comfortable in their lab, so we can start right away once school starts. I don't know what I'll be working on during that time, but we'll figure that out very soon. I might continue with this current project just to see its completion, or I might transition to another project that makes more sense time-wise. So, that's what I'll be doing this upcoming school year and I'm so excited to get started!
